MEDIA RELEASEBenjamin MajorFire Chief Date: 05/21/13 Phone: (910) 433-1427 Public Safety Youth Academy The 2013 Public Safety Youth Academy is set to begin on June 17th this year. The Academy will run through June 21, 2013 and will be held at the Fayetteville Police Department Training Center and the Fayetteville Fire Department Training Facility. The Academy is held every year for a select number of youths in our community. This year, the targeted age group for the academy is 10 to 12 years of age. During the academy, students will participate in a variety of public safety related fields including the K9 Team, Emergency Response Team, Traffic Enforcement and Forensics. While students are at the Fayetteville Fire Department Training Facility, they will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on experience with firefighting equipment. The Public Safety Youth Academy is a joint program sponsored by the Fayetteville Police Department and the Fayetteville Fire Department. The Academy is provided at no cost to attendees and meals are provided by local businesses. Applications to participate in the program are available for pickup at the Fayetteville Police Department located at 467 Hay Street or can be downloaded from the Fayetteville Police Department’s website; www.bethebadge.com (Look for the section titled “Recent Studies and Reports”). Applications need to be returned no later than May 31, 2013.
